hippotherapy

Hi, Dr. Jaclyn Rabito here. Today there is a video showing you of what a typical hypnotherapy session or physical therapy that’s using hypnotherapy in the session may look like.

So here we go. What you’re seeing here at the start of this video is something that I like to do with a lot of the kids or adults that I work with. And that’s just doing some tasks upon the barrel. It’s less intimidating and can be more fun for the kids and the parents so that we can all be involved. And as you saw there, we were just working on some balance activities, because this little friend has a very intense fear of falling. And that’s one way to work on the core. We can also work on the range of motion of different body parts on the barrel here.

Now what you’re seeing is we’re introducing him to the pony, that we’ll be working with him. I like to do that just so that everybody is acquainted with one another. And there’s not a lot of fear there. Next, what you’re seeing is we’re working on skipping, I like to use the Rena the sand and the different elements that you’ll see outside into our sessions to incorporate that because that’s a real-life situation, that you run into different things such as curbs in the world or at the grocery store, you know, the bumps for the cars, you have to walk over.

Right now you’re seeing me adjust the helmet. And so we like to be sure that’s a specific size. Some kids wear helmets, some kids don’t, it depends on their head control, and how well they can hold everything in place. And we also don’t want to ever hurt the cervical spine. So that may be a thing that you see in different sessions. He also has a gait belt wrapped around his waist and that’s what you see my hand going through there. That’s just for additional safety.

We have our horse leader, our horse or pony, and myself with the client. And you can see he’s very tense, a little nervous. So we kind of you know, just stand for a few minutes, see how things go. You can see he’s got his toes pointed knees up, rounded back, leaning forward on the hands, not too relaxed quite yet. But he’ll get there by the end of the session as we start to introduce the movement. And sometimes the walking can be used to help regulate or jumpstart the sensory-motor system kind of wake your body up so that you feel alert and ready to work. And there can be more talked about that if you visit at the website or give me a call.

I love being a physical therapist because I enjoy helping people get to their maximal potential especially when they have to see so many other healthcare providers and are looking for someone to bring them hope in a realistic fashion, just like my physical therapist did for me.
