Not just great for kids but Hippotherapy is for adults too, even well experienced riders
Good evening, Dr. Jaclyn Rabito here, and I shot some videos for you guys of a client inpatient participating in physical therapy by way of using the equine…
Miss Truly Ray getting it all out, as a tool and a hippotherapy intervention as part of her regular treatment session. And I wanted to put out there, so typically what you think of when you think of hippotherapy being used as a physical therapy treatment tool, is that you see little peanuts with different disabilities on the pony or horse, which is true, but I also want to take that a step further and that the video that you’ll see is a very accomplished rider who has low back pain and abdominal strengthening issues, and so the style of the session is totally different, which you’ll see in the video, because for her, she is on the horse, no side walkers or any of that, and it’s just me and her going through the motions.
And in the video, we’re more quiet to be sure that you could just see what it’s like from her point of view, her part of that treatment session. And so I just wanted to put out there… Oh, here she comes, and there she goes… that physical therapy sessions and using the horse equine as a tool, definitely applies to little ones all the way up through the lifespan of those of who it’s appropriate for. And too, riders oftentimes have imbalances and they will show up with the horse, or the regular horse that they ride may have an imbalance, and then it may show up on the rider if they do that, like as their main sport.
So we use the equine again as a treatment tool, in this case, to help this very accomplished rider with her back and abdominal strengthening. And again can be a little peanut all the way up through an adult, and there are benefits for everyone of every age if they’re appropriate, and here comes Miss Truly Ray again. She says, hi guys. Have a good night.
